There’s some epic training-sessions to come in the near-future (well, unless we go into lockdown next week…), and the last few months haven’t been filled with epic races or training-sets… So it’s been quiet on the blog (that will hopefully change!)…

…first sunshine-run of the year!

But…

For those who are wondering if I ever got out of my ‘nearly-overtrained-and-it’s-all-getting-a-bit-much‘ situation (especially those who don’t follow me on instagram or twitter); I’m OK… And back into ultra-training… And pretty much where I need to be when it comes to preparation for the Deca…

…double-run weekends start to feel like rest…

Taking a few weeks with less training was definitely the best decision there could be; It helped me focus on my dayjob (which is something that has to be fitted in between all the training-sessions… or is it the other way round?), and it helped me to regain my focus and energy… So when I was ready to go for my first ultra-run I was flying! Completely rested, mind and body perfectly in sync…

Now I’m almost two months back into my ‘normal’ routine; basically a lot of running, cycling mainly indoors (because of ‘sub-optimal’ weather conditions), and the swimming still hasn’t reached the ‘big’ distances, since we decided to wait until the open-water season… (although the lifeguard at the pool was surprised when I did a 9km swim… apparently that’s not considered a ‘normal’ swim-session!).

Not many special things happened over the last months, but one run did stand out; I decided to give myself a DoubleMarathon for my birthday (and coach didn’t stop me), so I ran 85km into a headwind to visit my brother (thanks to that big brother for running with me the final 15km!). An epic day out, which went better than my previous runs over this distance, so I’m happy with the shape I’m in now!

…birthday DoubleMarathon through a special village…

Next blog will be hopefully a nice story about a big adventure… There’s a few ideas for the next few weeks…
